I'm gonna put up a very "tiaooo" song...wanna make a guess?

Old Vs New

Old

Suddenly unable to power up.Realised that it takes 1/2 hr to power up...

New

Free replacement!!Lifetime warranty!!

Very happy with D-link's promises of lifetime warranty.I won't say it's product is excellent, but for a normal user, quite ok already. I forked out $144 for the old one which lasted me 2.5 years, and of cos happy that I don't need to fork out more to get it replaced, although the new one is an updated model which cost only $65 now..but hey,it's new and free! What more can I say?

The only thing I don't like about the new set is, it comes with a heavy power adapter. Let me show off my engineering knowledge here.

Old types of power adapters are the heavy types. Why is it heavy? Simply because inside are coils of copper cores which made up a transformer (not the movie!) to step down the voltage from household 230Vac to around 7.5Vdc, and then go thru a AC-DC converter called a rectifier. The thing about transformer is that, efficency is very poor, around 40%,cos losses exist in the iron and copper. Means to say,you put in 100% of power in, you only get 40% out.And you pay 60% of the power bills for nothing.

New types, which are lighter, like your Nokia or SE chargers, uses the SMPS,or Switched Mode Power Supplies technology, which consists of only a small transformer(hence the light weight)and a few reservoir capacitors and inductors to perform the voltage step-down.Due to the small size of the transformer, losses are minimum and efficency can reach up to 90%.
